The unofficial results for the 2016 Bethel City Council elections show Fred Watson, Byron Maczynski, and Norman Ayagalria in the lead for the council’s three open seats. The absentee and question ballots have yet to be counted, and the results will be made official next week.

Tuesday is election day for Bethel City Council, the Lower Kuskokwim School District Board of Directors, and the LKSD Advisory School Board.

For City Council elections, there’re six candidates and three open seats. The candidates are: Norman Ayagalria, Fritz Charles, Byron Maczynski, Mary Nanuwak, Fred Watson, and Mary Weiss.

Bethel City Council Elections are Tuesday, and we’re taking a look at the current council’s attendance over the past year. All these numbers are out of 47 total regularly scheduled and special meetings between October 19, 2015 and September 27, 2016.

Eligible, Unregistered Voters To Get One More Nudge

The Alaska Division of Elections is planning on contacting unregistered, but potentially eligible, voters in Alaska to encourage more registration before the October 9 deadline.

Monday representatives from federally recognized tribes across the United States are meeting in Washington, D.C. for the 2016 White House Tribal Nations Conference. One of those representatives is Mike Williams Sr. of the Akiak Native Community. This will be the fifth conference Williams has attended under the Obama administration. On his way to D.C. this weekend, KYUK spoke with Williams during his layover in Bethel.

Tuesday evening the 2016 Bethel City Council candidates gathered in City Hall to answer questions on why they are running for council and what they would do if elected.

The six candidates are running for three open seats for the October 4 election. Five candidates attended the forum: Norman Ayagalria, Fritz Charles, Mary Nanuwak, Fred Watson, and Mary Weiss. Candidate Byron Maczynski was unable to attend due to illness.
