Bethel Offers Deal To ATV Drivers Cited Last Month

Another wrinkle in this fall's long and twisted saga of Bethel's ATV enforcement came in the mail to those caught in the city's initial crack-down on ATV drivers using the state highway. It came in the form of a letter offering to remove the charge in exchange for a donation to the city's Volunteer Emergency Services.

State budget cuts have reduced Bethel's Sex Offender Treatment Program to a fraction of its former self. In a year, the program’s staff has gone from three members, with a combined experience of almost 40 years, to one member with four months experience. Now board members, former employees, and advocates are saying the change is too much, too soon. They fear recidivism will increase, costing the state more money down the line and damaging YK Delta communities along the way.

Three Dead In Bethel; No Foul Play Suspected

Over the weekend, three people were found dead in their homes in Bethel.  Police believe that two of those deaths were from natural causes, while the third death, that of 34-year-old Josephine Fisher found Saturday, is still under investigation. An autopsy will be conducted, but police say that there was no sign of foul play.  

The Bethel Police Department has released a statement denying that it failed to submit evidence to prosecutors in the case of Daniel Misner, who pled out to assault charges after firing shots in a residential neighborhood of Bethel earlier this year.

The investigation continues into an assault that left a man with multiple stab wounds in Emmonak. Allen Akaran was at his home in Emmonak on Friday when he started punching his girlfriend and then began striking his two-year-old daughter.

On Thursday afternoon, the state charged Albert R. Cleveland of Quinhagak in connection with the raid of a Bethel home where law enforcement seized large amounts of heroin and cocaine.

Six Plead Not Guilty To Heroin Charges

After the raid of a Bethel home in connection with the sale of heroin and crack cocaine, six suspects have now been arraigned. All pleaded not guilty to the charges, but bail was not lowered for any of the accused.
