Napakiak’s 50-Year Erosion Plan

As permafrost melts many communities in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta now face the threat of erosion. This morning during “Coffee at KYUK,” Katie Basile has invited guests to talk about a plan Napakiak developed to get funding to deal with erosion that is encroaching on the village.

Guests are Max Neale from the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, Napakiak’s Managed Retreat Coordinator Walter Nelson, Heather Gross, a civil engineer on the project, and David Andrew, tribal administrator for Napakiak. They talk with Basile about the plan the community has developed to help Napakiak deal with erosion. This is “Coffee at KYUK.”
