On Saturday, Nov. 21, there will be two chances to get a COVID-19 test and flu shot in Bethel. The events are free and no appointments are needed.

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation will hold the events in two locations. The first event is from noon to 2 p.m. in Housing Subdivision in the Ayalpik Apartments Parking Lot, also known as the AVCP Regional Housing Authority apartments. The second event is from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Tundra Ridge Park.

The tests will be sent to a lab in Anchorage, and you can expect to receive your results in five to seven days. YKHC will call people who test positive, but the fastest way to get your results is to set up an account with myYKHealth. Learn how to set up an account by following the instructions from this link.

YKHC is encouraging everyone to get tested, and urges people who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms to immediately call the YKHC hotline to schedule a test. The number is 543-6949 and the hotline is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“Widespread testing will help to identify undetected cases so individuals know to isolate, which will help to stop transmission of COVID-19 in our community,” the health corporation wrote in a Facebook post promoting the testing events.

YKHC is asking everyone to get a flu shot this season to prevent overwhelming the health care system during this pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone above the age of 6 months get a flu shot, with rare exceptions.
