This Week's Yukon Commercial Chum Openings

Commercial fishing for chum salmon on the Yukon River continues this week in Districts 1 and 2. There is a 72-hour opening in District 1, which begins at noon on Saturday and continues until noon on Tuesday. The allowed gear is dipnet and beach seine.

In District 2, further up the Yukon, commercial fishing has four 12-hour openings starting on Saturday and ending on Tuesday. The first opening runs from noon to midnight on Saturday, June 16. The second begins at noon on Sunday, June 17, closing at midnight. The third one starts on Monday at noon, also ending at midnight. The fourth and final opening next week starts at noon on Tuesday and ends 12 hours later at midnight. Again, dipnets and beach seines can be used to catch chum salmon in the commercial openings, but fishermen must have a confirmed buyer before fishing. All king salmon caught during these openings must be released alive immediately and recorded on a fish ticket.

Subsistence fishing in Districts 1 and 2 of the Yukon River is continuing on a reduced regulatory schedule. Seven-and-a-half-inch mesh size or less gillnets are authorized for two 18-hour subsistence openings per week in both districts.

In District 1 of the Yukon, subsistence fishing opens on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and closes at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. It opens again on Friday at 2 p.m. and closes at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

In District 2, subsistence fishing opened today, Monday, June 18, at 2 p.m. and closes Tuesday at 8 p.m. The second subsistence opening begins on Thursday at 2 p.m. and closes at 8 p.m. on Friday.
