Warm Temperatures Push Back K300 Season Opener

Local temperatures have crept back up, and that means that trail conditions are not safe for the Kuskokwim 300 Race Committee’s season opener. The first local race has been tentatively postponed until Dec. 15 at 11 a.m., but the committee will make its final decision about that on Dec. 13.

Starting the season opener later in the year might be the new normal as winter temperatures warm across the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

The committee pushed back the K300 Season Opener twice last year because of similar conditions. In fact, December 2017 was the warmest on record for Alaska. And this year, while slightly colder, isn’t much better.
