The unofficial results for the 2016 Bethel City Council elections show Fred Watson, Byron Maczynski, and Norman Ayagalria in the lead for the council’s three open seats. The absentee and question ballots have yet to be counted, and the results will be made official next week.

Totals from both precincts show Fred Watson in the lead with 341 votes, incumbent and Vice-Mayor Byron Maczynski with 321 votes, and Norman Ayagalria with 277 votes. The remaining candidates are incumbent Mary Weiss with 242 votes, Fritz Charles with 235, and Mary Nanuwak with 78 votes.

Watson was selected in 60 percent of all ballots cast; Maczynski was chosen in almost 57 percent, Ayagalria in almost 49 percent, Weiss in almost 43 percent, Charles in over 41 percent, and Nanuwak in 13 percent. To see the table click here.

There are still 78 absentee and question ballots for the Canvass Board to count Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.

Around 16 percent of eligible voters cast ballots in this election.

The Lower Kuskokwim School District Advisory School Board results will be available in the coming days. There are 4 available seats and the candidates are Dolly Boney, Danielle Craven, Alvin Jimmie Sr., R. Mark Jones, Nili Sundown, and Susan Wheeler.

The votes for the state Regional Educational Attendance Area board show Wassilie Pleasant in the lead for Seat D with 157 votes, and Deanna Latham is in the lead for Seat F with 205 votes, and the only candidate for Seat I is John Mark with 206 votes.

Again all results are unofficial and will be made official next Tuesday, October 11th in the next regular council meeting, and three of those candidates will be inducted into the council.

Correction: In a previous airing of this story we incorrectly stated the regular city council meeting will take place on Thursday. The correct statement is the regular city council will happen on Tuesday.
