Public comments are duefor the proposed Donlin mine’s reclamation and closure plans. The project would be one of the biggest gold mines in the world if developed.

Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta residents must submit comments by August 7 to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. The agency is also seeking comments on how Donlin plans to pay for cleaning up the mine waste under the waste management permit. Those comments are also due by August 7.

The mine is expected to operate for 27 years, and possibly longer; it needs more than 100 permits before mining. Donlin Gold, the company developing the mine, expects to get most of its major permits out of the way this year.

Comments must be submitted to Faith Martineau, Executive Director of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Office of Project Managment and Permitting. The address is 550 W. 7th Avenue, Suite 1430. Comments can also be emailed to faith.martineau@alaska.gov or faxed to 907-296-5673.
