Napakiak Looks To Repair Boat Landing After Spring Storms Destroy It

Napakiak applied for a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers to help repair its eroding boat landing; spring storms wiped out most of it this year. Now barges, boats, and hovercraft don’t have a place to park.

According to the permit description, Napakiak plans to re-grade its current barge landing while building a new boat and hovercraft site near Johnson's Slough.

The Army Corps of Engineers permit is required for any construction or activity that would discharge waste or leftover material from repairing the landing into navigable waters, in this case the Kuskokwim River.

The permit application is up for comment from now until June 21.
