Moose Hunting In Zone 2 Of RM 615 Extended By One Week

National Park Service

Moose hunting in Zone 2 of the RM 615 hunt in Game Management Unit 18 will have a longer season this year.

Hunting in Zone 2 will begin on Sept. 1 and end Oct. 7, or when the harvest quota is met. That quota has been 110 bulls in recent years, but has not yet been set for this year. Zone 2 of the RM 615 moose hunt covers the Kilbuck Mountains. The new dates add an extra week to the season.

The Federal Subsistence Board approved the change on July 16 to provide additional subsistence hunting opportunities, and to align with state regulations. Ray Born, Acting Director of the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, says that the quota for Zone 2 has not been met in at least five years. The additional week will give hunters more time to reach the quota.

The season extension does not apply to Zone 1 of the RM 615 moose hunt. Zone 1 covers the Kuskokwim mainstem. This hunt opens Sept. 1 and ends Sept. 11. The harvest objective for Zone 1 is 170 bulls.
