Maurice Andrews Wins His Fourth Local Sled Dog Race Of The Season

Kuskokwim 300 Sled Dog Race

Bethel musher Maurice Andrews is on fire. On Saturday he took first in the February 50 sled dog race, marking his fourth win of the local race season.

Ten mushers competed in Saturday’s race. The course ran approximately 50 miles from Bethel to Nunapitchuk and back.

Bethel musher Matt Scott won the previous local race, but took second to Andrews on Saturday. Napaskiak musher Jason Larson took third. The remaining mushers finished in the following order: Victoria Hardwick, Salomon Olick, Joe Demantle, Jason Pavila, John George, Nate DeHaan, and Cameron Jackson.

Each musher took home more than $1,000 from the $20,000 purse.

The next local sled dog race is the 100 Mile Challenge on March 17.
