Masks Required At Swanson’s

On Monday, April 13, it became official: Swanson’s grocery in Bethel started requiring all shoppers to wear masks. 

The store manager did not want to endanger his workers or other shoppers by having people without face coverings in his store. Swanson’s was also the first grocery story in Bethel to require its employees to wear masks. 

Alaska Commercial had a tough time finding enough masks to ship out to its stores. The first shipment arrived in Bethel last week, and the staff began wearing them. Signs at the entrance of AC ask customers to wear masks while shopping. AC General Manager Walt Pickett said that he could not ask customers to wear masks if AC staff did not do the same.
