IHS Leadership To Tour Paul John Calricaraq Construction Site

IHS Acting Director Michael Weahee will tour YKHC's hospital expansion project on August 7, 2018.

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is showing off its ambitious hospital expansion on Tuesday. Rear Admiral Michael Weahkee, the Acting Director of the Indian Health Service, is flying to Bethel to tour the Paul John Calricaraq construction site. Several other members of IHS’ top leadership will also join the tour.

IHS has played a key role in financing the project. Two years ago, the agency agreed to pay for the expanded hospital’s additional staff, as long as YKHC paid for the construction. The $300 million could add as many as 200 healthcare jobs to the region. YKHC board members say that the improved facilities will have a major impact on patient care.

Correction: A previous version of this story stated that the Paul John Calricaraq Project could add up to 400 healthcare jobs to the region. In fact, it could add as many as 200. We regret the error.
