A four-wheeler collision in Akiachak has resulted in the death of one of the village elders, and injuries to the driver. Troopers say that alcohol is suspected to be a factor.

Just before midnight on Friday, 76-year-old Akiachak resident Ruth Lomack was struck by an ATV driven by 25-year-old Katherine Noatak, also from Akiachak.  The State Troopers' Daily Dispatch page says that Lomack was pronounced dead at the local clinic, and that Noatak was flown to Bethel for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Troopers are still investigating the incident.
