City Of Bethel Recognizes National Suicide Prevention Week

The City of Bethel has signed a proclamation in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Week, September 9-15, including World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.

As last Tuesday night's City Council meeting wound up, Mayor Richard Robb reflected on how deeply the issue of suicide has cut into both the heart of the community and the region.

“It’s tragic. We’ve all known people that have lost their lives to suicide, and working together we hope we can reduce our rate. And if anybody is ever depressed or feeling bad I would just encourage them to, or if you see someone that you know or love that feels that way, to reach out and get help, because help is available,” said Robb.

If you or someone you know might be at risk, you can contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation Emergency Services at either 1-844-543-6499 or 907-543-6499.
