Toward the middle of the Iditarod race pack, where the competition is a little less fierce, there’s a good deal more collaboration among racers. Mushers swap advice, gauge conditions, or compare potential strategies. That’s certainly true at this particular stage of the race, given changes with checkpoints and unfavorable weather conditions along the Yukon. In Galena, Alaska Public Media’s Zachariah Hughes observed those collegial bonds among two mushers at very different stages in their race and in their lives.
