Tuntutuliak Search and Rescue recovered the body of 29-year-old Patrick Nick on Monday. Searchers found his body near where his boat was found overturned along the Gaelic River earlier this month.
Nick had been missing since Sept. 4. While traveling from Bethel to Tututuliak in stormy conditions, he had reported that his 20-foot boat was taking on water.
According to the Alaska State Troopers, Tuntutuliak Search and Rescue found Nick's boat overturned in deep water the next day. Using military aircraft, the Air National Guard searched for Nick the day after his boat was found. Local groups led the search from there, but were forced to take many days off due to stormy conditions.
Troopers report that Nick's body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Anchorage for autopsy.
