Courtesy of BRHS

It was a busy weekend for Bethel’s wrestlers. Athletes competed in Napaskiak, Nome, and Fairbanks.

The Bethel Warriors earned a third place in the Interior Wrestling Dual Tournament held at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, with Hayden Lieb and Elijah Lindley voted Bethel’s true warriors. Up next for the Bethel wrestlers is the King of the Mountain Dual Tournament at Seward High School. Hayden Lieb is headed to the lower 48 for the Super 32 Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Some Bethel Wrestlers went to Nome to hit the mats in the Nome Invite. The boys took home one second place and three third place ribbons. Eddy Jimmy took second place in the 112-pound bracket. Taking third place ribbons in Nome were: Matthew Kapsner in the 135-pound bracket, Kaliyou Tsosie in the 140-pound bracket, and Nicholai Chase in the 160-pound bracket.

In the Varsity finals in Nome, Eddy Jimmy placed 2nd in the 112-pound bracket and Charles Smith placed 3rd in the 135-pound bracket.

The Lady Warrior wrestlers walked away with two first-place finishes, one second-place finish, and one third-place finish. Blue ribbons went to Shanna Mendenhall in the 160-pound bracket and Rebecca Samuelson in the 145-pound bracket. Lindsey Beans-Polk took second in that bracket for the Warriors; Kelsi Madso placed third in the 112-pound bracket.

Two Lady Warriors took home 2nd and 3rd place ribbons in the Napaskiak Invitational. Brienna Henry placed second in the 145-pound bracket and Beth Hensley placed 3rd in the 130-pound bracket.
