Bethel’s Landon Smith took home a first-place ribbon in Freestyle wrestling from a tournament at Colony High School in Palmer this past weekend.

Bethel youngest wrestlers took to the mat, competing in the Tri-Valley Freestyle/Greco-Roman tournament on Friday and Saturday.

In Greco-Roman wrestling, two young wrestlers placed in the competition. Paul Dyment earned second place in the Novice division, as did Joseph Smith in the Schoolboy division.

Bethel’s wrestling club showed its colors in Freestyle wrestling, with four members taking home podium honors. Not only did Landon Smith take first, defeating Blake Foster with the Avalanche Wrestling Association in the Schoolboy division, but Paul Dyment placed second in the Novice division, as did Ethan Wheeler in the Intermediate division. Intermediate wrestler Jackson Iverson came back with a third-place ribbon for his weight class.

Next weekend the Bethel Wrestling club will be competing at the Arctic Warriors Tournament at Wasilla Middle School.
