Tonight marks the induction of Bethel’s recently elected City Council members: Fred Watson, Norman Ayagalria, and incumbent Vice Mayor Byron Maczynski.

Council member Zach Fansler will be leaving after serving for two years. During his time on the council he served on the energy and marijuana committees, helping to draft Bethel's first marijuana regulation. Fansler beat out incumbent Bob Herron for a seat in the Alaska House of Representatives.

Mary Weiss, filling in for former council member Chuck Herman after he resigned from his post early, was vocal about improving water quality in Bethel.

Byron Maczynski was reelected after serving for two years. Maczynski ran on largely the same platform as in his first campaign, advocating for action against Bethel's growing heroin problem.

All three members will be sworn in tonight at 6:30 p.m. during our regularly scheduled meeting.

Official Bethel Advisory School Board results are also in this week.

Four new members were elected: Danielle Craven, Nili Sundown, Dolly Boney, and Alvin Jimmy Sr.
