Both the Bethel Warrior girls and boys teams will move on to play for the State championship after wins this weekend at the Western Conference Regional Tournament.
The Warrior girls beat the Kotzebue Huskies 55 to 50. Bethel dominated the game’s first half with a 22-point margin but had to work hard to keep their lead through the final quarters. Courtney Williams led the Bethel scoring with a game-high of 22 points. Katie and Marissa Crow both added 10 points.
The Warrior boys beat the Nome Nanooks 53 to 33. Bethel trailed Nome throughout the first half of the game but steadily pulled ahead during the second half. Warrior senior John Fredericks collected game-highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds. Bethel senior Clevon Constantine racked up 12 points, 10 steals, and nine rebounds.
Both Bethel’s girls' and boys' teams will play next week at the 3A State Championship games. The girls play in the first game on Thursday, March 22 against Valdez at 8 a.m. The boys play against Monroe at 11 a.m. that same day.
In the meantime, the 1A State Championships games begin this Wednesday.
