ADF&G: RM615 State Permit Moost Hunt to Close, Federal Hunt Remains Open

The state managed permit moose-hunting season in the portion of Unit 18 on the lower Kuskokwim will close to moose hunting effective 11:59 pm Monday.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game issued a release saying that the RM615 permit moose-hunting season for Unit 18 on the Kuskokwim is closed. Unit 18 is the area from below Lower Kalskag to the mouth of the Kuskokwim, and all tributaries. Managers say based on previous data, they believe the quota of 150 antlered bulls will be met by September 5th. The hunt began on September 1st.

State managers say there is an estimated population of 1900 moose in Unit 18. Fish and Game reminds successful hunters to report their harvest within 72 hours of their catch. Unsuccessful hunters should make a report by September 25th.

The Federally manages portion of the season will remain open till the 11:59pm Thursday, September 15th.
