The Alaska Department of Fish and Game reports that the chum and king salmon runs have largely passed the Kuskokwim area and the silver salmon are on their way. During this transition, ADF&G has lifted some restrictions on subsistence fishing in the Kuskokwim area.
As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, gillnets can be used in the Kwethluk, Kasigluk, Kisaralik, Tuluksak, Aniak and Eek rivers, and the waters at the mouth of the Aniak river are now open to subsistence fishing. Fishermen can now use gillnets of any size mesh, but gillnet length remains restricted to 50 fathoms or less.
