News ReporterNina was a temporary news reporter at KYUK. She comes to Bethel from NPR, where she's a producer at Morning Edition. Prior to moving back to the East Coast to work at NPR, Nina was the assistant news director at a community radio station called WORT in Madison, WI. She's originally from the Washington, DC area.

The principal and some staff have left the village due to concerns for their safety, according to the Lower Kuskokwim School District. Class was cancelled Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, and Chief Paul Memorial School will shift to remote learning on Nov. 2 until further notice.

Two separate fiber-optic cable projects could make internet less precarious in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in coming years. Leaders say the projects will bring “Anchorage" speeds and prices to Bethel and some surrounding communities by 2025.
