The Iditarod Race Committee honored the finishers of the 2018 race last night with a banquet in Nome. Each musher who made it to the finish line took home a check.

For fifth place, Bethel’s Pete Kaiser received $32,262. For his sixth place finish, Aniak’s Richie Diehl took home $27,412. For 25th place, Akiak’s Mike Williams Jr. received $1,049.

Aniak's Richie Diehl also won the Northern Air Cargo Herbie Nayokpuk Memorial Award. It's presented to the competitor who most emulates the famed Herbie Nayokpuk, better known as the Shishmaref Cannonball. Winning that prize meant that Richie Diehl took home another $1,049 as "pocket change" inside the pocket of a Northern Air Cargo jacket.
