UFWS Announces 72-Hr Salmon Opening On Kuskokwim And Tributaries

U.S. Fish and Wildlife has announced a 72-hour opening for chinook and chum salmon harvests for federally qualified subsistence users beginning at 12:01 p.m., noon, Wednesday.

The opening is for the Kuskokwim River and tributaries.

From the Kuskokwim River mouth upstream to the Johnson River mouth, nets must be no longer than 300 feet in length. From the Johnson River mouth to downstream of Kalskag at the south edge of Uknavik Slough, nets must be no longer than 150 feet in length. Drift and set gillnets must be six-inch or less mesh and may not exceed 45 meshes in depth.

The opening ends at 11:59 a.m., noon, Saturday, July 2.

The public waters upstream of Kalskag remain open to chinook and chum salmon harvests by federally qualified subsistence users.

Some tributaries remain closed including the Eek, Kwethluk, Kasigluk, Kisaralik, Tuluksak and Aniak Rivers.
