School Starts Next Week For LKSD

LKSD is making its social workers available to students and parents following the arrest of Gladys Jung Elementary School Principal Chris Carmichael.
Lower Kuskokwim School District

The Lower Kuskokwim School District is getting ready for school to start next week. LKSD Superintendent Daniel Walker says that Bethel public schools are set to begin on August 15, while other schools in the district could start on August 16. Walker says that parents should contact their schools for start dates.

Meanwhile, LKSD is still finalizing plans to help parents get students to school. Earlier this month, the school district cut ties with its long-time bus contractor, Bethel-based Golden Eagle. The school district is going to buy a new fleet of school buses, but they won’t get to town until late September.

LKSD said that they could give parents cab vouchers or payments for transportation costs. Walker says that there will be limited bus service for Bethel students as well; the school district owns three buses already.
