Bethel resident Peter Evon, age 35, has been selected to take over as Executive Director of the Bethel Orutsararmiut Native Council. Evon begins the position on May 29. He’ll replace current Executive Director Ron Hoffman, who’s retiring after a year and a half on the job.

Evon comes to ONC with a background in financial services. He worked a little over two years as a loan officer and grant manager at the Association of Village Council Presidents Regional Housing Authority and before that at First National Bank in Bethel. Evon also put in six years at Wells Fargo in King Salmon and Bethel as a branch manager.

Evon is not an ONC tribal member. He’s originally from Akiachak and has lived in Bethel for more than 10 years. He and his wife Katherine Evon have five children, ages one to 10. Evon grew up subsistence hunting and fishing and says that he’s looking forward to taking his kids bird hunting once school lets out.

To give back to the community, Evon co-organizes the Bethel men’s basketball league and announces high school basketball games on KYUK.

Anna Rose MacArthur served as KYUK's News Director from 2015-2022.
