In a three to two vote, Bethel's City Attorney, Patty Burley, was denied a 3 percent raise Tuesday night following her annual performance evaluation.

Vice Mayor Fred Watson and council member Raymond “Thor” Williams opposed the raise, although they did not publicly disclose why. Discussion of Burley’s review took place during the meeting's second executive session, and the vote was held when council was back on public record.

“The contract that the council has with the attorney allows us to give her up to a 3 percent raise, or no raise at all for a particular contract year,” said council member Mark Springer who, along with Mitchell Forbes and Leif Albertson, was in favor of the raise.

Mayor Richard Robb and Brian Henry were both absent from Tuesday night's meeting and executive sessions.
