Myron Naneng has resigned as president and CEO of the Association of Village Council Presidents. Naneng announced his decision at an Executive Board meeting Wednesday. The resignation became effective immediately, according to a press release from the regional tribal nonprofit.
The Executive Board has selected AVCP Vice President Mike Hoffman to act as interim president and CEO of the organization that serves 56 villages across the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta.
Naneng sat as president for 24 years. During his final year, AVCP laid off 30 employees, and a KYUK investigation revealed longtime mishandling of federal funds intended for low-income families.
Following the controversies, a minority of AVCP tribal representatives called for voting Naneng out of office at the nonprofit’s upcoming annual convention.
AVCP has not responded to KYUK’s request for further comment.
