As the race loops through Bogus Creek for the second and final time, three-time defending Kuskokwim 300 champion Pete Kaiser is getting into position to earn a fourth title. He was the first musher to leave the Tuluksak checkpoint Saturday night for the final run through Bogus Creek and back to Tuluksak for four hours of mandatory rest.

Norwegian Joar Leifseth Ulsom is racing in the second position 34 minutes behind Kaiser. At this stage in the race, the diverging rest schedules have finally run to their conclusion. Ulsom split his discretionary rest into three parts: four hours on the inbound Tuluksak stop of the first loop and an hour each in Bethel and Tuluksak in the second loop. Kaiser spent two hours in the inbound Tuluksak stop on the first loop and four hours at the halfway mark in Bethel. Kaiser has posted the fastest run times of the field over the past two runs.

Racing in the third position is Jeff King, followed by Ray Redington Jr. and Richie Diehl.
