It’s Fritz T. Charles’ second time running for Bethel City Council. Charles is a Member of Bethel’s VFW chapter, sits on the Kuskokwim River Salmon Management Working Group, and volunteers with Bethel Search and Rescue. He grew up in Tuntutuliak, and moved to Bethel at 18 for work. Recently he hosted KYUK’s Yuk to Yuk, but resigned to run for City Council.

“There is a lot of struggling going on, and being a former city employee,” said Charles, “I’ve a lot of good insights of what needs to be fixed or worked on from the higher echelon like the City Council.”

Charles was a mechanic and truck driver with the city. He wants to serve on the City Council to address budgetary, street, and alcohol issues. We asked him how he felt about Local Option.

“You know, I’m both ways for it, but I’d rather not see the City of Bethel get into local option law. There is ways around not selling hard liquor,” Charles said.

If elected, Fritz Charles is interested in serving on either the Public Safety Commission or the Public Works Committee.
