Bethel has a new mayor. Fred Watson will replace outgoing mayor Richard Robb after a special city council meeting Monday night. Raymond “Thor” Williams will be Bethel's vice mayor.
Williams and Watson were in competition for the position of mayor. After the first vote ended in a tie, Watson ultimately won by a 5-1 vote in the second round of voting.
Williams and felllow council member Leif Albertson vied for the position of vice mayor. After one round of voting, Williams was elected to the position by a 4-2 vote.
Bethel City Council will hold its first regular meeting with its new composition and new mayor on October 23 at 6:30 p.m., broadcast live on KYUK.
