Many elders in the Calista region will soon be greeted by hundreds of extra dollars as the year ends.
The Calista Native Corporation will issue payments under its Elders’ Benefits Program next week. More than 2,200 original Calista shareholders age 65 and older will receive $325. Checks and direct deposits will be distributed by the end of the business on Monday.
In a press release, Calista Corporation President Andrew Guy wrote: “the distribution will provide financial relief as temperatures drop." That distribution will total more than $700,000.
