Friday is the initial deadline to apply for the 2018 Kuskokwim 300 Sled Dog Race. Ten spots remain.

After Friday, the registration fee doubles from $400 to $800. All mushers who pay by January 1, 2018 and compete in the race will be refunded their money. Mushers who register after that date will not be reimbursed.

The race is accepting 30 mushers, and so far 20 have registered.

The roster includes K300 three-peat winner and Bethel favorite Pete Kaiser as well as local mushers Richie Diehl of Aniak and Victoria Hardwick of Bethel. It also includes two local father-son pairs: Mike Williams Jr. and Mike Williams Sr. of Akiak, and Isaac and Nathan Underwood of Aniak.

The remaining registered mushers include Tony Browning, Aaron Burmeister, Josh Cadzow, Matthew Failor, Jeff King, Hugh Neff, Mats Pettersson, Ray Redington Jr., Brent Sass, Cim Smyth, Ramey Smyth, Joar Leifseth Ulsom, and Niklas Wikstrand.

The Kuskokwim 300 Sled Dog Race begins January 19, 2018.

Correction: Jackie Larson of Napaskiak has not registered for the 2018 Kuskokwim 300 Sled Dog Race.
