Bethel City Council member Mark Springer has been appointed to serve on the Association of Village Council Presidents' Yupiit Piciryarait Museum Advisory Committee. The non-profit has not been able to afford the environmental controls that the museum building needs to properly care for its artifacts.

Springer will have no power to make any financial commitments on behalf of the Council, but he says that serving on the committee will help him stay informed about a "sustainability initiative" that AVCP has put in place. This initiative was designed to develop options for caring for, exhibiting, and interpreting an artifact collection that is likely to grow because of materials coming in from the Nunalleq archeological dig site near Quinhagak.
