A veteran physician at the Bethel Family Clinic won the coveted Sockeye Award on Monday.

Doctor Allen Freudenthal has worked in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta since 1979, and became the Bethel Family Clinic’s Medical Director in 2008. He has also worked with the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation and the Southcentral Foundation in Anchorage.

The Alaska Primary Care Association gives the Sockeye Award to clinicians who’ve dedicated their careers to providing healthcare in rural Alaska. The Association praised Freudenthal in a statement this week. “He never says 'No' to seeing a patient," they wrote, "and will work well past the end of his day to help people that are in need.”
