BCSF Sets Up New Fund To Honor Mary Ciuniq Pete

Courtesy of Mary Sattler Peltola

Mary Ciuniq Pete may have gone, but her work continues. She left a huge legacy in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

Pete was the first Alaska Native woman to work as director for the Subsistence division at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Until her death November 17, she worked as the director of the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Kuskokwim Campus.

To honor that legacy, the Bethel Community Services Foundation set up a scholarship fund for KuC students. The fund is only for returning students, and will prioritize Alaska Native women.

You can donate by going to BCSF’s website here.
