BCSF Rolls Out New Fund For Bethel-Based Nurses

Nursing students from Bethel often work part-time or full-time jobs to pay for transportation and living costs while on rotation outside of the region.

The Bethel Community Services Foundation has a new fund that will help nursing students from Bethel who are on rotation outside of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta pay for various costs.

BCSF says that the Bethel Nursing Cohort, which is part of the University of Alaska Anchorage Nursing Program, requested the funds because it's very expensive for students to pay for transportation and living costs while continuing their studies outside the region. Those costs can range from $1,000 to $2,000, and students often work part-time or full-time jobs to get by.

The funds will go to students that are currently enrolled in the Bethel Nursing Cohort and are in their final semester. There is an application process, but no strings are attached to getting the funding, according to Lisa Whalen, BCSF's program director.

BCSF says that businesses, organizations, and people can go online to donate funds. They can also donate in person at 1795 Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway.
