The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has announced a subsistence fishing opening for the Kuskokwim River. The opening begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 7 and lasts until further notice. Gillnets must be six-inch mesh or less and no longer than 50 fathoms in length.

The following river drainages remain closed: Kwethluk, Kasigluk, Kisaralik, Tuluksak, Aniak and Eek. A section of the Kuskokwim near Aniak is also closed.

ADFG is taking over management of the Kuskokwim subsistence fishery from the USFWS as of 6 p.m. Thursday. In a press release, USFWS says the management change is occurring as the lower Kuskokwim salmon fisheries transition from chinook to chum and sockeye.
