CAMA-I Dance Festival

 In the spring of the year indigenous and ethnic dancers from around the world join Native dancers from across Alaska in the lower Kuskokwim River community of Bethel for three days of dance, song and celebration during the annual Cama-i Dance Festival. Each program listed below features selected highlights of these performances.

Cama-i Dance Festival 2005

60 Minutes

Performers include the Yurartet YKD Dancers, The Akiuk Kasigluk High School Dancers, The Kuskokwim Campus Dancers from Bethel, The Kaluiarmiut Dancers from Nelson Island and Bethel, the Upallret Dancers of Bethel, The Alaska Native Heritage Center Dancers from Anchorage, The Chevak Dancers, Mountain Village Dancers, Scammon Bay Dancers featuring Marianne Sundown, the Nunam Iqua Dancers and the Little Diomede Island Dancers.

Featured groups include the Tuluksak Dancers, Nuniwarmiut Kassiyurtait of Mekoryuk, Nunivak Island , Suurimmaanitchuat of Barrow, The Thunder Bear Drum and Dance Group and a performance by the singing group Pamyua.

Featured groups include the Negeqlirmiut St. Mary’s Dancers, Caputnguarniut Tuarartait Chefornak Dancers, Emmonak Eskimo Dancers, Nanwalek Dancers, Toksook Day Traditional Dancers, Shasta Taiko Drummers and a special Heart Of The Drum performance featuring drummers from all the groups.

Features dance groups from the Y-K Delta.  Included are Napaskiak Dancers, Iqugmiut Dancers, Russian Mission, Toksook Bay Dancers, the Bethel High School Dancers, the Kilbuck School Dancers and the M.E. School Dancers.

Cama-i International    1997

Cama-i International takes a look at the performers who are not from the Y-K Delta.  Included are Bethel Korean Dancers, the Capoeiara Dancers from Bahia , Brazil , Dancers from the Crow Nation, the Atka, Alaska Dancers, the Okikari Basque Dancers and the Shasta Taiko Drummers.

Cama-i Behind the Mask 1997

This program gives viewers a behind the scenes look at the Cama-i Festival, illustrating the hard work of the crew to put on such an event and an off stage glimpse of the performers.

Highlighted groups are Pamyua, Bethel Traditional Dancers, St. Lawrence Island Dancers, Acoma Inter-Cultural Dancers, Akula-Kasigluk Dancers, KUC Dancers, Toksook Bay Dancers, Upallret Dancers and the Nightmute Dancers.

Featured groups are Stebbins Dancers, Indian Hoop Dancer, Canadian Throat Dancers, Korean "Ye Mu Ri Dancers", Hawaiian "Hui 'O Kaeoklani", KUC Dancers, and dance groups from Atmauthluak, Hooper Bay and Scammon Bay .  ***The opening and closing sequences of this program were edited in black and white with both the picture and sound recorded at slower than normal speed.  This was done intentionally for artistic purposes and is not a defect.***
