During the reporting period, this Employment Unit engaged
in the following outreach initiatives.
Continuation of
an internship program designed to develop skills needed for broadcast
employment. BBI works in
partnership with the
Bethel
Alternative
Boarding School
to provide a paid internship each school year for one or more of their
students. They are trained in a
number of areas including radio production, on-air announcing, TV camera
operation and various TV production assistant activities.
Establishment and
sponsorship of a broadcasting / journalism scholarship:
KYUK has established the Alexie Isaac Broadcasting / Journalism
Scholarship. Two $1,000 scholarships
are available each academic year, one for each semester.
The scholarship is awarded based on an application and essay regarding
career goals. A Committee of the
Board and staff reviews the applications and recommends their choice to the
Board of Directors. The first $1,000
scholarship was awarded this fall.
Participation in
activities other than the 15 listed options, that the licensee itself has
designed to further the goal of disseminating information about employment
opportunities in broadcasting. BBI works with a number of community groups
to provide tours of the stations to groups of young people. The
tour includes an outline of the various positions at the stations and the kinds
of education, training and experience required for each position.
